About Decibel Ratings for Air Compressors

Finding an air compressor with an appropriate decibel rating (dB) is important. All too often people choose air compressors which have high ratings and are therefore too noisy to tolerate, particularly for domestic use.

Decibel Rating Information

Air compressors today tend to have a decibel rating of between 40 and 90 dB. The higher the rating, the noisier the air compressor will be.

40 dB – This is considered low noise and is therefore the key feature to look out for when buying a small air compressor or an air compressor for domestic use.

60 dB – Considered the safest level of noise for air compressors, this is still tolerable for domestic use.

85 dB and over – Being exposed to noise at this level for long periods of time can be considered dangerous for your hearing. Those working in an industrial environment should exercise caution and use the appropriate ear defenders in order to protect their hearing.
Choosing the correct air compressor with the right decibel rating for your needs is one of the most crucial factors to consider when making your purchase.
